These are versatile lighting fixtures that rotate, pan and tilt, and have the ability to create different patterns and colors. You’ve definitely seen them before in use at high end rock concerts and awards shows. Generally speaking moving lights are not for understated effects, but for the right occasion they’re a great option.
That said, the “intelligent” part has more to do with the person programming than the light. So have a discussion about the theme and feel of your event with your AV partner. Because the lights are complicated equipment and there’s more labor involved in set up / programming you can expect to pay more than you would for conventional lighting.
